Mayors Quiz Night

Message from Councillor Duncan Wallace.

I have been afforded the privilege of being our town's Mayor for the past three years.
As part of my civic role and responsibilities, I discussed with my Deputy Mayor, Jackie, the prospect of arranging a charitable fundraising event. We agreed this first such event would support Isabel Hospice and the Herts and Essex Air Ambulance, both of which operate retail outlets in our High Street.

What was to unfold exceeded our wildest expectations and the support of the community and our local businesses was truly inspiring. With support from some Councillors, council staff and prominent community members we set about arranging the event which resulted in a full Campbell Hall at the Seth Ward Community Centre on Saturday, 29th March.

We were also supported at the event by Mayors representing Sawbridgeworth and Bishops Stortford, together with Mr Terry Douris, Chair of Hertfordshire County Council. I have always held a firm belief that our town 'punches above its weight' when called upon and this was to be no exception.

Importantly, those attending fully embraced the evening and feedback has been positive, importantly indicating enjoyment and fun had by all. Whilst I would love to publicly thank each individual there are far too many to mention, but on behalf of myself and Jackie, please accept our sincere gratitude for making this first such event such a success and helping to showcase our town in such a positive light.

As a direct result of everyone's generosity the evening raised in the region of £3,000 clear profit, to be split between the two charities.
