Buntingford Drama Club - Calendar Girls

Fri, 10 Feb 2023 20:00

We are genuinely excited to announce that our next production will be the wonderful stage performance of "Calendar Girls" written by Tim Firth and Juliette Towhidi, directed by Lee Baddock.

The stage play is adapted from the 2003 comedy film. It is based on the true story of a group of middle-aged members of the local WI (Women's Institute) in Knapeley, Yorkshire who produced a highly personal, controversial and touching calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research after Annie's husband John dies from cancer.

The play is an uplifting testament to love, laughter and loss. It shows how the deepest of friendships and sheer determination can overcome the greatest of challenges.

You may never look at a tired old sofa in the same way again.

Remembrance - Mehmet Govher

Sat, 11 Feb 2023 16:00

Following the tragic news of the loss of Mehmet and his parents in the recent earthquakes in Turkey, Christ Church United Reformed Church will be open in remembrance.

Our community in Buntingford has been blessed to have known Mehmet and his service to us at the Kings Pizza Kebab and Buntingford Fryery.

The Church will be open between 4pm and 7pm on Saturday 11th February for prayers, or perhaps you'd like to light a candle and sit for a moment with your own memories.

Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Lesley Manville plays a widowed cleaning lady in 1950s London who falls madly in love with a Christian Dior dress. The film follows her amazing adventures as she goes to Paris to acquire one of her own! This film has been chosen as a fund-raiser for the new Buntingford Live initiative which seeks to bring more crazy fun live events to Buntingford through the year – culminating, we hope, in another Summer Festival in Layston Gardens next year.
